Storage containers
Metal warehouse crates and containers can look awesome in a 40k fight. They can provide strategic positions if you allow then to be climbed up on. They remind me of playing a game of Quake or Half-Life.
What you need
- Corregated cardboard
- Scissors
- PVA glue
- Matches
- Paddle pop sticks or Balsa wood
- Modelling knife
Making the storage container
Corregated cardboard gives an excellent texture for a metal container. You can buy this from most craft stores, alot of stationary places would carry this too. The packaging from light bulbs is also a good place to find it!

Everyone know how to make a box, the most important thing in doing so it to get the box square! A crooked box looks pretty dumb.
You can use matches for the edges of the box and it looks quite good. Just cut out the sides for the box and glue the matches on with some PVA.

You can also make the top out of glued together paddle pop sticks or balsa for a wooden top.

Paint it black and dry brush with some metallic paint or do them in different colors as you would see in a warehouse.
It adds some realism to roughly stick on a small piece of paper to make the look of a transportation label.
To make a stack of these can be quite tedious, but they are perfect to make a mould out off and duplicate them with some plaster of paris. Maybe I'll create a link to this technique soon, let me know if you're interested.
